In the center of Samokov the impressive building of the Community Center rises, a witness of citizens’ aspiration to maintain the cultural glory of the town and honor the dead. The Community Center of Samokov emerged during the Renaissance, most probably it was establishment in 1853. The year 1859 is pointed as the year of the creation of Samokov Community Center, since official documents bearing the seal and kept in the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” date. In 1862 the first theatrical performance is given, and in 1870 the new management named the Community Center “St. Sedmochislenitsi.” The foundations of the present building were laid in 1912, but subsequent wars interrupted construction. The building was completed later and was officially inaugurated on 23 December 1923 as Memorial House to those who died on the battlefields in the Balkan, Inter-allied and the European wars (plaque commemorating those who died in World War II are located on the front of the Army House). The facade is decorated with sculptures of medieval warriors and eagles, plaques and reliefs depicting above them in battles near Krivolak 17-23 October 1915, Kalimanitsa (4-7 July 1913), Bulair (8 November 1913) and Elevation 1050 (5-11 July 1917).
